Computer Programming in Java
For Students Entering Ninth through Twelfth Grades

Syllabus

Course Description

This is a ten day class, consisting of three hours lecture per day for ten days. It is designed for high school students who would like an introduction to the Java programming language. No prior knowledge of computer programming is required. For a list of the topics covered in this class please see the page Computer Programming in Java: Course Outline.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this class, you will:

  • Be able to write, compile and execute simple Java programs; and
     
  • Be prepared to participate in an Advanced Placement Java Programming class in high school.

 

Grading Policy

No grades are issued to students in this class.

 

Assignments

The textbook used in this class is Java au Naturel, by Dr. William C. Jones, Jr., available on the class web site here.

Recommended exercises are assigned daily for those students who wish to continue their study at home. The facilities to do so are available for free from the Java web site, and from the web site for this class; please see the pages Working at Home. and Environment Variables
